How old do I need to be to apply for a CIT position?

CIT positions are open to students who will be entering their Sophomore year of high school in the Fall.

How can I apply to become a CIT?

Easy! Go to the Job Openings section of our website and click “Apply Now.” Fill out the application to work as a Counselor in Training. After applying, you will be notified to attend a group interview. You will then receive an offer letter if you are hired.

Is there a limit to the number of weeks a CIT can work?

No, the more the better. We encourage all CITs to work as many weeks as they can. The CIT program is highly competitive and priority will be given to applicants who can work the most weeks during the summer.

Do CITs have to pay for anything?

No, Congressional will provide one free CIT shirt and daily lunch. Extra shirts can be purchased for $10 at the camp store.

Are CITs paid?

No, CITs are not paid. Many CITs return the following year as junior counselors which is a paid position. Having experience as a CIT may increase your chances of getting hired as a JC in the future.

What are the primary responsibilities of a CIT?

The primary responsibility of a CIT is to assist your lead and junior counselor(s) daily. Other duties include: participating in activities with campers, helping keep facilities clean, helping conduct activities, ensuring safety, and making for an overall fun environment.

What age groups and programs do CITs work with?

CITs typically work with rising 1st through rising 4th graders at our Day Camp. CITs may work in a specialty area, with Great Adventures, or at our Sleepy Hollow Elementary School location upon request.

What is the time commitment of a CIT?

Like other staff, CITs are required to arrive at camp by 8:00 AM on the first day of every session and 8:30 AM on all other days of camp. You are expected to attend morning meetings with the rest of staff and attend a short ~15 minute meeting at the end of each day to check in with your supervisor.
